It can be said that the bow and arrow were the first technical hunting tools created by humans—the hunter-gatherers. Archaeological findings indicate that this equipment has been in use for as long as 10,000 years. The modern history of hunting with a bow and arrow arguably begins in 1911 with Ishi, believed to be the last surviving member of the Yahi tribe—a group that had not yet come into contact with the modern world. Following Ishi’s introduction to modern society, the University of California conducted research into his way of life, culture, and other aspects of his existence. Inspired by his hunting style and his method of using a bow and arrow, a group of Americans developed their own approach to bow hunting. This school of thought gained popularity and spread in the years that followed.
